Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Steve Wood (Austin Aces) is named Owner of the Year. Steve becomes the first owner to win both the World Series and the Owner of the Year Award in the same season, and it's his first time winning each. Steve's Austin Aces set an all-time best win record, going 123-31 (.799 WPC), which included a winning streak of 30 games. Austin outscored their opponents 1156-575 (581 RD), led the WBS in batting (.320 BA), pitching (3.15 ERA), and finished 2nd in fielding (.975 PCT). The pitching staff featured four 20-game winners, including Dolf Luque's single-season record 32 wins (32-6, 2.82 ERA). Luque was named World Series MVP, winning 3 games with a 2.67 ERA. Ken Williams picked up ballclub MVP honors, batting .385 with 235 hits, 30 home runs, 13 triples, 39 doubles, 137 RBIs, and 160 runs. Williams also shared LCS co-MVP honors with Lu Blue.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1923 Commissioner's Choice Team, selected by the Commissioner's Office, is announced today. Dolf Luque, Babe Ruth, and Ken Williams all earned honors, in addition to their Pitcher of the Year, Batter of the Year, and League MVP Honors. Eddie Collings, Bob O'Farrell, and Tris Speaker all earned repeat honors, while Harry Heilmann, Bernie Friberg, and Joe Sewell earned first time honors.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — Button Bay left-fielder, Frank Brower is awarded the 1923 Dark Horse Award, selected by the Commissioner's Office. Brower tied for 3rd in the Knickerbocker League in home runs with 26, while batting .323, hitting 30 doubles, 7 triples, driving in 94 runs, scoring 134 runs, and stealing 12 bases.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater's Babe Ruth and Austin's Ken Williams are named League Most Valuable Players. The award is Ruth's 5th consecutive, and Williams's 2nd. Both Ruth and Williams also won Batter of the Year Awards. Other players receiving votes were Edd Roush (Alt), Dolf Luque (Austin), Harry Heilmann (Bowling Green), and Eddie Collins (Williston).

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Alto's Waite Hoyt and Austin's Dolf Luque are named Pitchers of the Year. Hoyt led Alto to another league pennant, and finished the season 21-8 with a 3.00 ERA, starting 41 games and pitching 281.2 innings. In the Doubleday League, Hoyt tied for 2nd in wins and 4th in ERA. Hoyt is the 3rd different Alto pitcher to win Pitcher of the Year in as the last 3 seasons: he is preceded by Dixie Leverett (1922) and Sam Jones (1921). Luque had a career year, breaking the single season wins record to go 32-6 with a 3.01 ERA. Luque led the Knickerbocker League in strikeouts (171), innings pitched (328.1), complete games (28), and shutouts (5); he finished with the 4th best ERA. Luque also won 3 games in the World Series, completing all 3, and was named MVP of the series for Austin. Luque received a unanimous vote for Pitcher of the Year, the first pitcher to do so.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater's Babe Ruth and Austin's Ken Williams are named Batters of the Year. Ruth won the award for the 5th consecutive season, leading the Doubleday League in batting (.384), OBP (.541), SLG (.691), home runs (31), runs scored (144), and walks (185). Ruth also placed in the top five in doubles (45), triples (13), and RBIs (103). Ruth led his team once again to the playoffs. Williams won Batter of the Year honors for the first time in his career. He led the Knickerbocker League in slugging (.638), and placed in the top five in batting (.385), OBP (.458), doubles (39), home runs (30), RBIs (137), hits (235), runs scored (160), and walks (86). Williams led Austin to a World Series title, and picked up co-MVP honors in the Aces' League Pennant.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater third-baseman Willie Kamm and Boston second-baseman George Grantham are named Rookies of the Year. Kamm started the hot corner every game for Blackwater, compiling a .329 average, with 211 hits, 50 doubles, 15 triples, 10 home runs, 122 RBIs, 107 runs, and helped lead the Outlaws to the postseason. Kamm also started the Midsummer Classic for the Doubledays. Grantham had a solid season in Boston, batting .293, with 48 doubles, 15 home runs, 98 RBIs, 89 runs, and 34 stolen bases.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1923 Gold Glove Award Winners are announced today by the Commissioner's Office. Santa Carla's Wally Pipp won his 5th Gold Glove at first base. In the Knickerbocker League, Charlie Grimm of Button Bay won his 3rd Gold Glove at first base. All other Gold Glovers are first time winners, including veteran Ty Cobb.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1923 Ballclub Most Valuable Players are announced today by the Commissioner's Office, as named by their respective owners. Babe Ruth (Blackwater) and Rogers Hornsby (Button Bay) both earned their 5th Ballclub MVP Awards. Edd Roush (Alto), Red Faber (Kinnaird Street), Ken Williams (Austin), Harry Heilmann (Bowling Green), and Eddie Collins (Williston) all won MVP awards for a 3rd time.

Austin, TX (WBSP): AUSTIN ACES WIN FIRST WORLD SERIES TITLE!!. Austin came back from a 3-2 deficit in the ninth inning, helped in part by 4 walks issued by Alto's bullpen, Sam Jones and Hooks Dauss. Lu Blue got the walkoff RBI, a base hit to center. Alto looked strong early, fueled by Edd Roush's 4 for 4 day, including 2 triples. Dolf Luque did the same thing he's done all season for Austin, pitching a complete game and finishing the World Series 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA. Austin also got more offense from Bernie Friberg and Jack Smith, both hitting their third home runs of the series. The World Series win caps off an historic season for Austin. 「boxscore」

Austin, TX (WBSP): Slugger Ken Williams brought his big bat to Game 6, propelling Austin to the win and forcing a final Game 7. Williams batted 3 of 5 with 2 home runs, a triple, 5 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Williams' first home run came in the bottom of the first inning, and the Aces never looked back. Jack Scott got the complete game win, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits and 5 walks. Jack Bentley didn't last long for Alto, allowing 7 runs in 3.1 innings, and taking the loss. Game 7 should be one for the ages, with aces Dolf Luque and Waite Hoyt preparing to face off one more time this series. Luque won both Games 1 and 4, and completed both games. 「boxscore」

Alto, NM (WBSP): WILD MUSTANGS ON THE BRINK!!!. Alto got the job done in Game 5, winning 4-2 over Austin and will head back to Texas 1 game away from a repeat title. The bottom half of the order gave Alto the offense they needed, stringing together several singles in the 4th to take a 3-0 lead. Heinie Mueller and Bernie Friberg led off the 7th with a double and triple to spark a 2-run rally and threaten Mustang starter Hooks Dauss, but Alto's bullpen came through and that was it for Austin. Edd Roush tacked on a home run in the bottom of the inning for an insurance run, and Alto never looked back. Eppa Rixey took his 2nd loss of the series, allowing 3 runs in 6. Austin has their back against the wall, and a loss at home is an upset folks in Texas can't imagine; the whole state is holding their breath! 「boxscore」

Alto, NM (WBSP): Heinie Mueller slugged 2 RBI triples in today's game 4 win by Austin, 4-3, over Alto. Lu Blue added a double and a triple, and Bernie Friberg added a solo home run, his second of the series. Dolf Luque pitched a complete game, winning his second of the series, and just stopped a ninth inning rally by Alto. Waite Hoyt looked much better than in game 1, but fell short despite pitching a complete game. Hoyt also made the final out of the game, flying out with 2 men on. With the series tied at 2 games apiece, Alto will finish their homestand tomorrow in Game 5. 「boxscore」

Alto, NM (WBSP): The Wild Mustangs won Game 3, 4-2, thanks to pitching by committee to take a 2-1 series lead over the Aces. Sam Jones threw a solid 7 to earn the win, giving up only 2 unearned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Both Aces runs were assisted by infield errors, and relievers Jack Bentley, Dennis Burns, and Lee Howe combined to shut down the Aces offense in the last 2 inning; Howe picked up the save. Alto spread the offense around too, Harry Hooper, Edd Roush, Earl Sheely, and Rabbit Maranville each driving in a Wild Mustang run. Jack Scott took the loss for Austin. Raleigh, NC (WBSP): George Mogridge (Santa Carla) and Heinie Groh (Williston) are named WCS MVPs. Mogridge won games 2 and 6 for the Bats, including a complete game in Game 2, and finished the series with a 2.25 ERA, allowing 4 runs on 20 hits and 6 walks in 16 innings pitched; he struck out 7 batters. Groh batted .571 for the Wendigos, 12 hits in 21 at-bats, with 4 doubles, a triple, 6 runs, 9 RBIs, and a stolen base.

Santa Carla, CA (WBSP): The Santa Carla Bats are packing their bags and heading to New Mexico to face the defending champions Alto Wild Mustangs in the Doubleday League Championship Series. Santa Carla jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first, capped by a 2 run triple by Baby Doll Jacobson and never looked back, going on to win 10-5. George Mogridge got his 2nd win of the series with a 2.25 ERA. The Bats will make their 2nd LCS appearance in franchise history, their first dating back to 1920. 「boxscore」

Bowling Green, KY (WBSP): Elam Vangilder helped the Wendigos close out the series 4-1 over the Barons, and will head to Austin, TX to face the heavily favored Aces in the Knickerbocker LCS. Williston won 4-3, and fended of a late rally by Blackwater and Jack Tobin's leadoff homer in the bottom of ninth off of Vangilder. Reliever Ole Olsen allowed 1 more run in the inning, Bibb Falk tripling and then scoring off a Harry McCurdy single. Pinch runner Kiki Cuyler was gunned down trying to swipe second, and that may have cost Blackwater the game. Olsen finally got the save, and Vangilder notched his 2nd win of the series. 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Santa Carla takes Game 5 in Blackwater, 11-5, will head home with 3-2 series lead. Vic Aldridge pitched a complete game despite allowing 5 runs, getting his 2nd win of the series. A 6th inning Bats rally in the 7th inning made the difference, coming on a string of 8 consecutive singles allowed by Outlaw relievers Nick Dumovich and Rip Collins. 「boxscore」

Old Lyme, CT (WBSP): Wendigo Eddie Collins joined the 1000 hit club today, and Williston defeated Old Lyme 6-4. Collins improved his average to a league best .415, and appears well on his way to a batting title. Collins' team mate Tris Speaker could join him above .400, now sitting at .405. Both collected 2 hits on the day, and Speaker drove in 3. Urban Shocker threw a complete game, and improved to 16-7 with a 3.39 ERA. Austin, TX (WBSP): Dolf Luque piched his 22nd complete game of the season, improving to 26-5, in a 7-3 win over Bowling Green. Luque is on pace to win 32 games, which would break Carl Mays record of 30 wins set during his 1920 season with the Georgetown Giants. Shortstop Charlie Hollocher had a big day at the plate, batting 2 of 5 with 6 RBIs, thanks in part to Ken Williams batting ahead of Hollocher with 4 hits on the day. The Aces are now a staggering 102-23, pacing to win 125 games. Williston and Bowling Green are well positioned for the Wild Card spots in the Knickerbocker League. Over in the Doubleday League, Alto has a comfortable lead in first place, 8 games ahead of Santa Carla; Middleburry and Blackwater are duking it out for 3rd place. Williston, NC (WBSP): Barons' Harry Heilmann became the 4th player this season to get his 1000th career hit, joining Rogers Hornsby, Ty Cobb, and Bobby Veach. But Babe Adams and the Wendigos won the day in a 9-1 blowout. Adams allowed no earned runs, completing the game to improve to 9-3 with a 2.96 ERA. Williston and Bowling Green will likey face off in the postseason, both teams sitting 2nd and 3rd in the league with a fair amount of space in front and back. 「boxscore」

Willison, ND (WBSP): After getting snubbed by voters and Knickerbocker owners Kyle Pope and Steve Wood in the Midsummer Classic roster selections, Eddie Collins has been on a tear. Today Collins scored the go-ahead run for Williston in a 12-10 marathon against Boston, and batted 4 of 4, and stole 4 bases. His first hit put Collings over the .400 mark and he finished at .405 by games end. Heading into the break, Collins was batting .368, and has batted .527 since the break as of today. Well behind first place Austin but in comfortable playoff position, the Wendigos hope to start a fire and possibly upset the Aces in postseason play. 「boxscore」

New Orleans, LA (WBSP): Heinie Manush racks up 6 hits, 5 runs, in offensive deluge as Rougarou beat Wild Mustangs 16-12. 「boxscore」

Old Lyme, CT (WBSP): The Knickerbockers defeated the Doubledays today, 9-2, with late game offense. The Doubledays struck first, on a 4th-inning triple by Babe Ruth to score Edd Roush; Ruth would homer in the 8th to account for the only other Knickebocker run. Tris Speaker and Rogers Hornsby would combine for most of the offense, and earn CO-MVP awards, named by Knickerbockers manager Steve Wood. Speaker batted 2 for 4, and drove in 3 runs, including the tying run in the 5th, and the go-ahead runs on a triple in the 7th inning. Hornsby hit the game's only other home run, a solo shot in the 8th, and finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Despite the run disparity, the 9th inning featured a fair amount of excitement, including 4 plays at the plate, the Knickerbockers' runners beating out the Doubleday outfielders' arms. Pitcher Elam Vangilder was credited with the win today, and Stan Covelski took the loss. The Knickerbockers now hold a 3-2 series lead over the Doubledays in the Midsummer Classic. 「boxscore」

Raleigh, NC (WBSP): Today the Commissioners office announced the 1923 Midsummer Classic rosters. Both Babe Ruth and Rogers Hornsby were the only unanimous selections and are returning for their 5th consecutive time as starters. Kinnaird Street ace Red Faber will make his second consecutive start for the Doubledays, and face off against the Aces' Dolf Luque. Bob O'Farrell, Cotton Tierney, Harry Heilmann, and Tris Speaker also return as starters from last season. The Austin Aces lead all teams this season with seven players in the Midsummer Classic. Other players returning from last year's Classic include Whitey Witt, Pat Duncan, Zach Wheat, and Dolf Luque. The Old Lyme Ticks will host the game at in Old Lyme, CT. Alto's Gary McIntosh and Austin's Steve Wood will serve as managers for the Doubledays and Knickerbockers, respectively.

Hoboken, NJ (WBSP): Slugger Ken Williams had a career day today, collecting 5 hits, including 2 home runs, a double, 7 RBIs, and 4 runs scored. The Aces won handily over Hoboken 15-6. Batting cleanup, Walter Mueller tacked on a double and a triple, and drove in a couple of runs. Reliever Earl Kunz snatched the W, while Ralph Head took the loss for the Elysians. 「boxscore」

Santa Carla, CA (WBSP): Catcher Cy Perkins batted for the cycle and led the Bats in a 15-3 rout of the Macon Whoopies today. Perkins was 4 for 4 with a walk, 4 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. His cycle was in "order" as well, the single, double, triple, home run coming in sequence. Ray Steineder had a solid outing for Santa Carla, getting the complete game, allowing only 2 earned run on 8 hits and walking none. Steineder improved to 5-1 with a 1.82 ERA on the season. Macon's Mike Cvengros took a drubbing and the loss, lasting only 1.2 innings and giving up 7, falling to 2-6 with a 5.79 ERA. 「boxscore」

Hoboken, NJ (WBSP): Rogers Hornsby achieved a milestone today, becoming the first player to reach 1,000 base hits in the WBS. Hornby batted 1 for 3, his base hit driving in Bobby Veach in the 6th, but Hoboken won the day, coming from behind with a three run rally in the 8th. Elysian catcher Frank Snyder crushed a double to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs. That was enough to give Curt Fullerton the win, and Clyde Barfoot closed out the game by retiring all 3 Benedict batters in the 9th. 「boxscore」

Boston, MA (WBSP): Kings' pitcher Paul Zahniser had a swell day, pitching a 7 hit shutout against Middlebury and legging out 2 triples of his own, improving to 3-2 with a 3.26 ERA. Kinnaird Street opened the 2nd inning with a solo shot by Bernie Neis and did not look back. Jim Bottomley contributed 3 base hits to raise his average to .389, and picked up an RBI. Moundsmen pitcher Ray Kolp took his first loss of the season, and stands at 4-1 with a 3.09 ERA. Right now Middlebury is battling it out with Blackwater and Alto for first place in the Doubleday. 「boxscore」

Boston, MA (WBSP): Colonials' pitcher Joe Bush is off to an historic start this season, as he pitched his 3rd shutout today to improve to 5-0 with a microscopic 0.40 ERA. In 5 starts this season, Bush completed every game and only allowed 2 earned runs on 28 hits in 45 innings pitched. Boston defeated Bowling Green 7-0, scoring every run in the 3rd inning with 9 consecutive batters reaching base safely on 5 singles, 2 walks, and 2 defensive miscues by Baron third-baseman Pie Traynor. Barons' pitcher Dutch Ruether gave up all 7 runs, falling to 1-4 with a 9.00 ERA. 「boxscore」

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Steve Wood (Austin Aces) is named Owner of the Year. Steve becomes the first owner to win both the World Series and the Owner of the Year Award in the same season, and it's his first time winning each. Steve's Austin Aces set an all-time best win record, going 123-31 (.799 WPC), which included a winning streak of 30 games. Austin outscored their opponents 1156-575 (581 RD), led the WBS in batting (.320 BA), pitching (3.15 ERA), and finished 2nd in fielding (.975 PCT). The pitching staff featured four 20-game winners, including Dolf Luque's single-season record 32 wins (32-6, 2.82 ERA). Luque was named World Series MVP, winning 3 games with a 2.67 ERA. Ken Williams picked up ballclub MVP honors, batting .385 with 235 hits, 30 home runs, 13 triples, 39 doubles, 137 RBIs, and 160 runs. Williams also shared LCS co-MVP honors with Lu Blue.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Alto's Waite Hoyt and Austin's Dolf Luque are named Pitchers of the Year. Hoyt led Alto to another league pennant, and finished the season 21-8 with a 3.00 ERA, starting 41 games and pitching 281.2 innings. In the Doubleday League, Hoyt tied for 2nd in wins and 4th in ERA. Hoyt is the 3rd different Alto pitcher to win Pitcher of the Year in as the last 3 seasons: he is preceded by Dixie Leverett (1922) and Sam Jones (1921). Luque had a career year, breaking the single season wins record to go 32-6 with a 3.01 ERA. Luque led the Knickerbocker League in strikeouts (171), innings pitched (328.1), complete games (28), and shutouts (5); he finished with the 4th best ERA. Luque also won 3 games in the World Series, completing all 3, and was named MVP of the series for Austin. Luque received a unanimous vote for Pitcher of the Year, the first pitcher to do so.

Ruth won the award for the 5th consecutive season, leading the Doubleday League in batting (.384), OBP (.541), SLG (.691), home runs (31), runs scored (144), and walks (185). Ruth also placed in the top five in doubles (45), triples (13), and RBIs (103). Ruth led his team once again to the playoffs. Williams won Batter of the Year honors for the first time in his career. He led the Knickerbocker League in slugging (.638), and placed in the top five in batting (.385), OBP (.458), doubles (39), home runs (30), RBIs (137), hits (235), runs scored (160), and walks (86). Williams led Austin to a World Series title, and picked up co-MVP honors in the Aces' League Pennant.

Kamm started the hot corner every game for Blackwater, compiling a .329 average, with 211 hits, 50 doubles, 15 triples, 10 home runs, 122 RBIs, 107 runs, and helped lead the Outlaws to the postseason. Kamm also started the Midsummer Classic for the Doubledays. Grantham had a solid season in Boston, batting .293, with 48 doubles, 15 home runs, 98 RBIs, 89 runs, and 34 stolen bases.

Austin, TX (WBSP): AUSTIN ACES WIN FIRST WORLD SERIES TITLE!!. Austin came back from a 3-2 deficit in the ninth inning, helped in part by 4 walks issued by Alto's bullpen, Sam Jones and Hooks Dauss. Lu Blue got the walkoff RBI, a base hit to center. Alto looked strong early, fueled by Edd Roush's 4 for 4 day, including 2 triples. Dolf Luque did the same thing he's done all season for Austin, pitching a complete game and finishing the World Series 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA. Austin, TX (WBSP): Slugger Ken Williams brought his big bat to Game 6, propelling Austin to the win and forcing a final Game 7. Williams batted 3 of 5 with 2 home runs, a triple, 5 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Williams' first home run came in the bottom of the first inning, and the Aces never looked back. Jack Scott got the complete game win, allowing 4 runs on 10 hits and 5 walks. Jack Bentley didn't last long for Alto, allowing 7 runs in 3.1 innings, and taking the loss. Alto, NM (WBSP): WILD MUSTANGS ON THE BRINK!!!. Alto got the job done in Game 5, winning 4-2 over Austin and will head back to Texas 1 game away from a repeat title. The bottom half of the order gave Alto the offense they needed, stringing together several singles in the 4th to take a 3-0 lead. Heinie Mueller and Bernie Friberg led off the 7th with a double and triple to spark a 2-run rally and threaten Mustang starter Hooks Dauss, but Alto's bullpen came through and that was it for Austin. Alto, NM (WBSP): Heinie Mueller slugged 2 RBI triples in today's game 4 win by Austin, 4-3, over Alto. Lu Blue added a double and a triple, and Bernie Friberg added a solo home run, his second of the series. Dolf Luque pitched a complete game, winning his second of the series, and just stopped a ninth inning rally by Alto. Waite Hoyt looked much better than in game 1, but fell short despite pitching a complete game. Hoyt also made the final out of the game, flying out with 2 men on. Alto, NM (WBSP): The Wild Mustangs won Game 3, 4-2, thanks to pitching by committee to take a 2-1 series lead over the Aces. Sam Jones threw a solid 7 to earn the win, giving up only 2 unearned runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. Both Aces runs were assisted by infield errors, and relievers Jack Bentley, Dennis Burns, and Lee Howe combined to shut down the Aces offense in the last 2 inning; Howe picked up the save. Mogridge won games 2 and 6 for the Bats, including a complete game in Game 2, and finished the series with a 2.25 ERA, allowing 4 runs on 20 hits and 6 walks in 16 innings pitched; he struck out 7 batters. Groh batted .571 for the Wendigos, 12 hits in 21 at-bats, with 4 doubles, a triple, 6 runs, 9 RBIs, and a stolen base.

Williston won 4-3, and fended of a late rally by Blackwater and Jack Tobin's leadoff homer in the bottom of ninth off of Vangilder. Reliever Ole Olsen allowed 1 more run in the inning, Bibb Falk tripling and then scoring off a Harry McCurdy single. Luque is on pace to win 32 games, which would break Carl Mays record of 30 wins set during his 1920 season with the Georgetown Giants. Shortstop Charlie Hollocher had a big day at the plate, batting 2 of 5 with 6 RBIs, thanks in part to Ken Williams batting ahead of Hollocher with 4 hits on the day. The Aces are now a staggering 102-23, pacing to win 125 games. Williston and Bowling Green are well positioned for the Wild Card spots in the Knickerbocker League. Today Collins scored the go-ahead run for Williston in a 12-10 marathon against Boston, and batted 4 of 4, and stole 4 bases. His first hit put Collings over the .400 mark and he finished at .405 by games end. Heading into the break, Collins was batting .368, and has batted .527 since the break as of today. Old Lyme, CT (WBSP): The Knickerbockers defeated the Doubledays today, 9-2, with late game offense. The Doubledays struck first, on a 4th-inning triple by Babe Ruth to score Edd Roush; Ruth would homer in the 8th to account for the only other Knickebocker run. Tris Speaker and Rogers Hornsby would combine for most of the offense, and earn CO-MVP awards, named by Knickerbockers manager Steve Wood. Speaker batted 2 for 4, and drove in 3 runs, including the tying run in the 5th, and the go-ahead runs on a triple in the 7th inning. Hornsby hit the game's only other home run, a solo shot in the 8th, and finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Despite the run disparity, the 9th inning featured a fair amount of excitement, including 4 plays at the plate, the Knickerbockers' runners beating out the Doubleday outfielders' arms. Both Babe Ruth and Rogers Hornsby were the only unanimous selections and are returning for their 5th consecutive time as starters. Kinnaird Street ace Red Faber will make his second consecutive start for the Doubledays, and face off against the Aces' Dolf Luque. Bob O'Farrell, Cotton Tierney, Harry Heilmann, and Tris Speaker also return as starters from last season. The Austin Aces lead all teams this season with seven players in the Midsummer Classic. Other players returning from last year's Classic include Whitey Witt, Pat Duncan, Zach Wheat, and Dolf Luque. The Old Lyme Ticks will host the game at in Old Lyme, CT. Hoboken, NJ (WBSP): Rogers Hornsby achieved a milestone today, becoming the first player to reach 1,000 base hits in the WBS. Hornby batted 1 for 3, his base hit driving in Bobby Veach in the 6th, but Hoboken won the day, coming from behind with a three run rally in the 8th. Elysian catcher Frank Snyder crushed a double to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs. Boston, MA (WBSP): Kings' pitcher Paul Zahniser had a swell day, pitching a 7 hit shutout against Middlebury and legging out 2 triples of his own, improving to 3-2 with a 3.26 ERA. Kinnaird Street opened the 2nd inning with a solo shot by Bernie Neis and did not look back. Jim Bottomley contributed 3 base hits to raise his average to .389, and picked up an RBI. Moundsmen pitcher Ray Kolp took his first loss of the season, and stands at 4-1 with a 3.09 ERA. Boston, MA (WBSP): Colonials' pitcher Joe Bush is off to an historic start this season, as he pitched his 3rd shutout today to improve to 5-0 with a microscopic 0.40 ERA. In 5 starts this season, Bush completed every game and only allowed 2 earned runs on 28 hits in 45 innings pitched. Boston defeated Bowling Green 7-0, scoring every run in the 3rd inning with 9 consecutive batters reaching base safely on 5 singles, 2 walks, and 2 defensive miscues by Baron third-baseman Pie Traynor. In the first game of the series Ruth walked in 5 of 5 plate appearances. Ruth now has a .397 average and .581 OBP as April nears its close. Blackwater holds a 2 game lead over reigning champion Alto. Coming off a 120 loss season, Walsh is on the hot seat in Old Lyme. Walsh has been accused by some hot-headed locals of being too preoccupied with other side hobbies (e.g. race horse breedng and his cast-iron pan collection) to focus properly on his ballclub.
