Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Kyle Pope (Williston Wendigos) is named Owner of the Year. Kyle won the award for the 2nd time, in addition to his first WBS Championship this year. Williston trailed 1st place by as many as 10.5 games early in the season, and made a pivotal trade for Walter Johnson, which helped Williston climb back and ultimately claim 1st place on the last day of the season and finishing with a 90-64 record. The Wendigos led the league in offense, leading the WBS with a .310 batting average, .813 OPS, 101 home runs, and 6.0 runs per game. In the postseason, the Wendigos defeated Austin in the Knickerbocker LCS 4 games to 2, and Blackwater in the World Series in 7 games.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1924 Commissioner's Choice Team, selected by the Commissioner's Office, is announced today. Knickerbocker League Pitcher of the Year Herb Pennock of Bowling Green made the cut. Batters of the Year and League MVPs Babe Ruth (Bla) and Rogers Hornsby (BB) earned the honor for their 6th and 5th times respectively. Knickerbocker Rookie of the Year Ike Boone of Williston made the team, while shortstop Joe Sewell of Boston earned his 2nd Commissioner's Choice Award. Bubble Hargrave (Mac), Joe Judge (OM), and Goose Goslin (Mid) all received the award for the first time in their careers.
Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — Hoboken Elysian right-fielder, Ross Youngs is awarded the 1924 Dark Horse Award, selected by the Commissioner's Office. Youngs had a well-rounded season. While posting a Gold Glove performance in right-field, he also had a solid year at the plate, batting .332 with 34 doubles, 11 triples, 8 home runs, 82 walks, 130 runs scored, and 27 stolen bases. Despite this solid performance Youngs remained overshadowed by teammates Jack Fournier and Bill Doak who played in the Midsummer Classic, and Cy Williams won the Elysians Team MVP Award.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater's Babe Ruth and Button Bays's Rogers Hornsby are named League Most Valuable Players. Ruth won the award for the 6th consecutive time, and Hornby won his 3rd. Both also won Batter of the Year this season.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater's Bill Sherdel and Bowling Green's Herb Pennock are named Pitchers of the Year. Sherdel finish the season 19-2, a staggering win percentage of .905, and a 3.22 ERA. While he didn't lead the Doubleday League or his team in any of key pitching statistical categories, he put together a solid stat line across the board: 212.1 innings pitcher, 30 games started, 8 complete games, and 1 shutout. Sherdel helped lead his team to their first World Series. Herb Pennock was a work horse for Bowling Green, leading the Knickerbocker league with 21 wins and 5 shutouts, losing only 9, and maintained a 2.80 ERA. Pennock pitched 296.0 innings over 39 starts, completed 17 games, and struck out 100 batters. Pennock also pitched in the Midsummer Classic, and led his team to the postseason.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater's Babe Ruth and Button Bay's Rogers Hornsby are named Batters of the Year. Both received unanimous votes for the award. Ruth won the award for a 6th consecutive season. He led the Doubleday League in batting (.393), home runs (42), hits (222), runs scored (158), stolen base percentage (19-7, 73.1%), and walks (150). He also slugged 46 doubles, 13 triples, and drove in 123. He fell only 6 RBIs short of a Triple Crown. Hornsby did capture the Triple Crown in the Knickerbocker League, with a .390 average, 23 home runs, and 128 RBIs, to win the award for the first time in his career. Hornsby also led the league in walks (93), and slugged 34 doubles, 10 triples, and scored 101 runs.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater pitcher Ernie Wingard and Williston outfielder Ike Boone are named Rookies of the Year. Wingard led all Doubleday League pitchers with 20 wins and 299.0 innings pitched, and finished the season with a 3.40 ERA and 42 games started. He also led Blackwater to their first World Series appearance, going 2-0 in the LCS, completing both games, getting a shutout, and was awarded MVP of the LCS. In the Knickerbocker League, Boone finished 2nd in batting with a .384 average, slugged 33 doubles and 10 home runs, scored 91 runs, and drove in 118. Boone also started in the Midsummer Classic and earned team MVP honors for his great play this season.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1924 Gold Glove Award Winners are announced today by the Commissioner's Office. Headlining the Gold Gloves, Williston's Max Carey and Hoboken's Ross Youngs both won their 3rd Gold Gloves. New this year, the Commissioner has added a Gold Glove Award for Utility Players. Ozark Mountain's Chick Fewster and Topeka's Jigger Statz received the Utility Player Gold Glove. Fewster showed off his versatility, flexxing between 2nd and 3rd base, while Statz hopped between center and left field, playing well in both. The award is Statz's 2nd; he won for his play in right field last year. Alto's Rabbit Maranville, Kinnaird Street's Whitey Witt, Williston's Heinie Groh all won the award for the 2nd time in their career. Maranville has now won the award at both secondbase ('24) and shortstop ('23).

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1924 Ballclub Most Valuable Players are announced today by the Commissioner's Office, as named by their respective owners. Babe Ruth (Blackwater) and Rogers Hornsby (Button Bay) both earned their 6th Ballclub MVP Awards. Boston's Zack Wheat and Santa Carla's George Mogridge all won the award for the 3rd time in their career, while Middlebury's Goose Goslin and Old Lyme's Jack Tobin won their 2nd award.

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): WILLISTON WENDIGOS WIN FIRST WORLD SERIES TITLE!!! The Williston Wendigos warmed up their bats early and chipped away steadily at Blackwater's pitching staff, scoring 15 runs on 19 hits and 8 walks as a team. Eight Wendigo batters had 2 or more hits and there was no easy out for Blackwater. Rip Collins only made it through 3.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits. The Oulaws' pitchers also combined for 3 wild pitches, and their defense made 4 errors in the field. Walter Johnson aced the game for Williston, allowing only 1 unearned run on 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings, while striking out 9. Johnson was 2-1 with a 1.38 ERA in the series. Eddie Collins had a great day and series overall, batting 3 of 4 with 3 RBIs, and leading all batters with a .483 average over the series. The final score was 15-3, the only dominant win in an otherwise tight series. The World Series win is especially sweet for owner Kyle Pope who has dominated the past 6 seasons and won more games than any other owner. This season was marked by the midseason trade for Walter Johnson, who despite only going 3-6 for Williston in the regular season, perhaps made the difference in the World Series. The Wendigos also stage a late season comeback to edge Bowling Green for first place on the last day of the season. HATS OFF to Mr. Pope and the Williston Wendigos! 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Blackwater staged a 5-run rally in the 8th, 4 of which came with 2 outs followed by a string of 4 hits off of Lee Meadows, to lock down the win and force a final Game 7. The Outlaw rally included 2 doubles, by Jack Smith and Aaron Ward. For the Wendigos, Glenn Myatt hit his 3rd home run of the series, a 2-run shot in the 5th. George Uhle stayed strong to the end, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks. Game 7 is tomorrow in Blackwater, both teams on the cusp of winning their first World Series. Walter Johnson and Rip Collins are expected to return to the mound for their 3rd faceoff. These 2 gentleman split Games 1 and 4... baseball fans should be in for a TREAT! 「boxscore」

Williston, ND (WBSP): The Wendigos jumped out early and fended off a late comeback attempt by Blackwater to win 8-6 and secure a 3-2 advantage before heading back to Blackwater for Game 6. Ike Boone and Tris Speaker combined to drive in 5 of the Wendigo's 8 runs. Boone had a solo home run, and Speaker hit a 3-run double to do most of the damage. Three Outlaw errors helped out Williston, as Ernie Wingard gave up 5 runs, only 3 earned, in 4.2 innings of pitching. The Outlaws got to Urban Shocker late, Phil Bohne with a pinch-hit home run in the 7th, and Babe Ruth capping a 2-run rally with a double in the 9th to get within 2 runs, but Huck Betts got Jack Smith to ground out, ending the game. Back to Kentucky, Williston only needs 1 win to finally crack the nut and get their World Series crown. The Outlaws can't afford to lose. 「boxscore」

Williston, ND (WBSP): Rip Collins and Walter Johnson put on another pitching duel today, and this time Collins had the 3-1 edge. Collins and the Outlaws carried a 1-0 lead into the 8th, when his namesake Eddie Collins hit a home run to tie the game. Collins gave up 2 more singles to Tris Speaker and Ike Boone, but retired Heinie Groh to leave those runners stranded on 2nd and 3rd, and get our of the jam. Blackwater finally got to Walter Johnston in the 9th, as Johnny Gooch drove in Jack Smith with a sac' fly for the go-ahead run, and Jimmy Johnston doubled in Willie Kamm for the insurance run. Sheriff Blake closed out the game for Blackwater and picked up the save. Williston will host Game 5 tomorrow, but will have to travel back to Blackwater for their shown at the crown. Williston, ND (WBSP): Babe Ruth, Willie Kamm, and Bing Miller combined for 5 home runs today against Williston, getting their first series win. Ruth and Kamm both had 2 each. Kamm drove in 4 runs, while Ruth collected 4 hits in all and hit the 9th-inning run which recaptured the lead for good for Blackwater. Williston came close to matching but fell just short. Both Glenn Myatt and Heinie Groh hit home runs for the Wendigos, Groh with the 3-run shot in the 7th that knotted the game. The 7 home runs hit today accounted for 11 of 13 runs, including all 7 of Blackwater's. Starters George Uhle and Lee Meadors both had no-decisions. Williston now leads the series 2-1, and Blackwater hopes to even that up tomorrow in Game 4! 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Game 2 stayed tight for 5 innings, until Blackwater rookie star Ernie Wingard lost the handle in the 6th, loading the bases for reliever Walter Beall who gave up a 3-run triple to speedster Max Carey. That busted the game open. Williston's Urban Shocker held strong for 8, but ran out gas in the 9th. Shocker got in a little trouble, and the Outlaws scored 3 to get within 2, but reliever Mike Cvengros got the job done and earned the save. Shocker was credited with the win; Wingard the loss. Max Carey's 4 RBIs fueled the offense for Williston, with help from Glenn Myatt who batted 3 of 5 with 3 run scored, including a solo home run in the top of the 9th. The teams will head to Williston, ND for Game 3, the Wendigos up 2-0 and in strong position to win the crown in front of hopeful home town fans who have been waiting for this moment for some time. 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Veteran ace Walter Johnson single-handedly beat Blackwater today, 3-1. Johnson and opponent Rip Collins both had shutouts going until the 8th when Johnson singled to drive in Max Carey and Roger Peckinpaugh. Johnson almost kept his shutout, but gave up a solo shot and the Blackwater's only run to Babe Ruth with 2 outs in the 9th. Both pitchers threw complete games, Johnson allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks, and Collings allowing 3 runs on 4 htis and 2 walks. Game 2 is tomorrow in Williston. 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Babe Ruth hit the go-ahead home run in the 6th inning that made the difference, sercuring Blackwater's first league pennant and trip to the World Series. George Uhle pitched solid, going all 9 and scattering 10 hits and 4 walks, holding Alto to only 2 runs. Waite Hoyttook his 2nd loss of the series, yielding all 3 Outlaw runs. Williston, ND (WBSP): Williston fans are jubilant today, after years of postseason struggle they finally punched their ticket to the World Series. The Wendigos' bats came alive, going up 5-0 in the 2nd inning and never looking back, finishing with a dominant 12-3 victory. Lee Meadows got the complete game win for Williston. Catcher Glenn Myatt had a big day at the plate, batting 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 doubles, 4 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Myatt's first inning double drew first blood, scoring Joe Harris. Alto, NM (WBSP): Alto crushed Middlebury's postseason dream, completing the comeback after falling to a 1-3 deficit in the Doubleday Wild Card Series, winning 4-2 today. Also's biggest bat, Edd Roush contributed with 3 hits, including a run scored and RBI. Shortstop Howie Shanks also contributed 3 hits and an RBI. Williston, ND (WBSP): Rookie sensation Kiki Cuyler had a big day, batting 4 of 4 with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs to lead Bowling Green to a clutch win, moving back to first in a tie with Williston! Raleigh, NC (WBSP): With 2 days left in the regular season, Alto is waiting to see who they will host in the Doubleday Wild Card Series... Santa Carla and Middlebury are tied, with 2 games left against Macon and Alto respectively, and Macon sitting 1 game behind. Macon is in striking distance hosting Santa Carla, but needs a little help from Alto who is facing Middlebury. Over in the Knickerbocker League, Williston is 1 game ahead of Bowling Green, who they face to close the season; 1 more win and the Wendigos get the title. If Bowling Green slips, they could find themselves in 3rd place since the sit only 1 game ahead of Austin who are playing the last place Ticks.

Williston, ND (WBSP): Ike Boone's walkoff moonshot secured a win ovre Button Bay, and more importantly propelled Williston to first place in the Knickerbocker League, with only a couple weeks of play left. Wilbur Cooper was only 2 outs away from a shutout when Boone hit his 19th home run of the season. Cooper fell to 17-9 on the season, and reliever Huck Betts snagged the win, even though starter Lee Meadows pitched 8 innings and only allowed 1 Benedit run. The Wendigos are hungry, having been very successful in past seasons and coming up empty in the postseason. They share the best record since the Midsummer Classic with Doubleday leading Blackwater Outlaws. 「boxscore」

Old Lyme, CT (WBSP): George Kelly batted for the cycle today, as the Boston Colonials continue to scrap for a playoff spot. The 12-5 win over Old Lyme has them jockeying for the 3rd place spot in the Knickerbocker League. With less than a month to go, all but 3 teams have a reasonable shot at making the post-season. Kelly drive 3 runs and scored 3 runs in his 4 of 4 effort, and added a sacrifice fly as well. Dave Danforth got the win, allowing 4 Ticks runs in 7.1 innings, improving to 13-6. Topeka, KS (WBSP): The Moosedogs may not be in the hunt, but they came to make life difficult for the 2nd-place Wendigos today. Recently acquired veteran ace Walter Johnson took a shelling of sorts, giving up 6 runs (only 2 earned), losing 8-3 to Topeka. Pat McNulty led the way for Topeka, batting 5 of 5 with 2 triples and 3 RBI. Pete Donohue got the win, pitching all 9, and allowing only 3 runs on 13 scattered Williston hits. Austin, TX (WBSP): The wildcard scrum in the Knickerbocker League continued today with a big win by Austin, 10-0 over Williston, tightening a 2-game gap which also includes Button Bay and Boston. Eppa Rixey shut out the Williston offense, allowing on 3 hits and no walks. Rixey stands 16-8 with a 3.31 ERA. Johnny Mostil led the Aces' offense, batting 2 of 4 with a home run and a triple, and driving in 4 runs. Ken Williams added 3 hits, driving in 2 and scoring 3 runs. Lee Meadows took a shelling for the Wendigos, allowing 7 runs in 4 innings, and falling to 15-12 on the season. The win is Austin's 4th in a row, and even though they sit 5th, they are in easy striking distance of a postseason position. Williston is tied for 2nd with Boston. It looks like every game will count for about half the WBS in both leagues as we head into the final month of play! 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): In a possible Doubleday postseason preview, Macon outpaced Blackwater, scoring 6 in the last 2 innings to come from behind and win 12-9. Bob Meusel tripled 3 times, Hack Wilson picked up his 10th homerun and 3 RBIs, and Joe Dugan collected 5 hit of his own. Blackwater seems to have the Doubleday pennant in the bag, but Macon is vying for a playoff seat. Reliever Buster Ross snatched the win for the Whoopies, and is now 8-0 with a 2.09 ERA in 55 appearances. 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Blackwater has surged to a 12-game lead in the Doubleday League, having led all teams with a 16-8 record since the Midsummer Classic. Today's win came over Santa Carla in a 13-4 rout on 20 hits. George Uhle pitched the complete game, improving to 11-7 with a 3.96 ERA. Uhle also helped out at the plate, combining with Jimmy Johnston and Bing Miller for 12 hits, 10 RBIs, and 7 RBIs. Miller also had a home run. Hoboken, NJ (WBSP): Max Carey had a 5-hit day, leading the Wendigos to a 7-1 victory over Hoboken, inching their way up in the standings in what should be an exciting Knickerbocker League playoff race. Carey doubled and drove in 3 in the effort. Jack Bentley pitched all 9, allowing 1 run on 6 hits and 6 walks, and improved to 10-4 with a 4.21 ERA. The Wendigos sit in 2nd place, and the Elysians are in the hunt, with Button Bay, Boston, and Austin all with a couple games of each other. 「boxscore」

Middlebury, VT (WBSP): The Knickerbockers staged an 11-run rally in the 8th to blow the lid off the Midsummer Classic in Middlebury today. Rougarou Jack Quinn and Outlaw Rip Collins combined to yield 9 singles and a walk in the barrage. After Doubledays jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st, Rogers Hornsby answered with a 2-run blast to tie the game in the bottom half, and then a single to put the Knickerbockers up 3-2 in the 2nd. The Doubledays scored 6 runs late in the 6th and 7th innings to come back and recapture the lead, sparked by a pinch hit RBI single by Marty McManus who entered the game with 2 strikes on Riggs Stephenson. McManus finished 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs for the Doubledays, but it was not enough. Tris Speaker and Joe Sewell both picked up 3 hits for the Knickerbockers; Sewell also scored 3 runs. Hornby had the only home run and led all batters with 3 RBIs. Boston's Sam Gray snagged the win credit. The Knickerbockers have won 3 consecutive classics, and now lead the series 4-2 overall. Bowling Green, KY (WBSP): Pie Traynor extended his hitting streak to 26 games today, but was unfortunately injured running the bases on the streak-extending single, and will miss the Midsummer Classic that WBS fans voted him to start in. The first-place Barons also fell to Hoboken 9-8, falling just short with a 2-run rally in the 9th. Herb Pennock took the loss, 12-4 (3.00). Reliever Bert Cole picked up his 3rd win of the season. Raleigh, NC (WBSP): Today the Commissioners office announced the 1924 Midsummer Classic rosters. Once again Babe Ruth and Rogers Hornsby are returning for their 6th consecutive time as starters. The first-place Blackwater Outlaws led all teams with 3 selection, catcher Mike Gonzalez and shortstop Jimmy Johnston joining Ruth. Ruth was the only unanimous selection. Alto pitcher Sam Jones will get the start for the Doubledays against Austin pitcher Eppa Rixey, facing off in their own World Series rematch. The Classic is hosted by Ken Edwards' Middlebury Moundsmen in Middlebury, Vermont. Hometown favorite Goose Goslin also made the starting squad. The Knickerbockers will play as the home team. Gary McIntosh and Steve Wood will face for their 2nd time in the Classic.

Middlebury, VT (WBSP): Middlebury whooped the Whoopies 14-6 today, and Nemo Leibold did most of the damage for the Moundsmen, driving in a whopping 8 runs on 4 hits, and scoring 4 times. Bowling Green, KY (WBSP): The Barons won their 9th straight, and ace Herb Pennock won his 9th of the season (9-1, 2.24), as Bowling Green cruised to a 6-1 victory over the struggling Boston Colonials. Boston has lost 7 of their last 10 games, and have fallen 8.5 games behind the first-place Barons. Pennock threw a complete game; a first-inning tirple by Harry Heilmann followed by a Frankie Frisch double met the Barons' needs. Bibb Falk tacked on a solo shot in the 7th inning. Sloppy Thurston took the loss for Boston, dropping to 3-4 with a 3.06 ERA. Bowling Green has surged to a 36-13 record, best in WBS. Frisch drove in 4 runs and scored 3, and his 2-run shot in the 7th put Bowling Green up for good over the Austin Aces. Dutch Ruether picked up the win, improving to 4-2 with a 2.27 ERA. Boston, MA (WBSP): Pitcher Rip Wheeler flirted with a no-hitter today, allowing only 1 hit and no walks to Topeka; only one other Moosedog reached base on an error. Topeka's lone hit was a single by Homer Summa in the 7th inning. The Colonials also beat up on Dazzy Vance; Vance gave up all 7 Boston runs and fell to 2-2 with a 2.06 ERA. Wheeler improved to 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA. George Kelly led Boston's offense with a 3-run homer on a 2-4 day at the plate. Santa Carla, CA (WBSP): The Bats outlasted the Moundsmen today in a 1-0 pitchers' duel. George Mogridge earned the W, a 6-hit shutout, improving to 3-0 with a 0.72 ERA. Bob Shawkey pitched stellar, only allowing 3 hits, but gave up the difference-making home run to Cotton Tierney in the 2nd inning. Shawkey falls to 1-2, with a 1.25 ERA. Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Babe Ruth had a big, big day, cranking 2 home runs in 5 of 5 batting, driving in 4 and scoring 4. Ernie Wingard also had a great day, hurling a 7-hit shutout against the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and hitting a home run of his own in the th inning. In the team effort, the Outlaws scored 14 runs on 19 hits; every man in the lineup got a hit. Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Kyle Pope (Williston Wendigos) is named Owner of the Year. Kyle won the award for the 2nd time, in addition to his first WBS Championship this year. Williston trailed 1st place by as many as 10.5 games early in the season, and made a pivotal trade for Walter Johnson, which helped Williston climb back and ultimately claim 1st place on the last day of the season and finishing with a 90-64 record. The Wendigos led the league in offense, leading the WBS with a .310 batting average, .813 OPS, 101 home runs, and 6.0 runs per game. In the postseason, the Wendigos defeated Austin in the Knickerbocker LCS 4 games to 2, and Blackwater in the World Series in 7 games.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1924 Commissioner's Choice Team, selected by the Commissioner's Office, is announced today. Knickerbocker League Pitcher of the Year Herb Pennock of Bowling Green made the cut. Batters of the Year and League MVPs Babe Ruth (Bla) and Rogers Hornsby (BB) earned the honor for their 6th and 5th times respectively. Knickerbocker Rookie of the Year Ike Boone of Williston made the team, while shortstop Joe Sewell of Boston earned his 2nd Commissioner's Choice Award. Bubble Hargrave (Mac), Joe Judge (OM), and Goose Goslin (Mid) all received the award for the first time in their careers.
Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — Hoboken Elysian right-fielder, Ross Youngs is awarded the 1924 Dark Horse Award, selected by the Commissioner's Office. Youngs had a well-rounded season. While posting a Gold Glove performance in right-field, he also had a solid year at the plate, batting .332 with 34 doubles, 11 triples, 8 home runs, 82 walks, 130 runs scored, and 27 stolen bases. Despite this solid performance Youngs remained overshadowed by teammates Jack Fournier and Bill Doak who played in the Midsummer Classic, and Cy Williams won the Elysians Team MVP Award.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater's Bill Sherdel and Bowling Green's Herb Pennock are named Pitchers of the Year. Sherdel finish the season 19-2, a staggering win percentage of .905, and a 3.22 ERA. While he didn't lead the Doubleday League or his team in any of key pitching statistical categories, he put together a solid stat line across the board: 212.1 innings pitcher, 30 games started, 8 complete games, and 1 shutout. Sherdel helped lead his team to their first World Series. Herb Pennock was a work horse for Bowling Green, leading the Knickerbocker league with 21 wins and 5 shutouts, losing only 9, and maintained a 2.80 ERA. Pennock pitched 296.0 innings over 39 starts, completed 17 games, and struck out 100 batters. Pennock also pitched in the Midsummer Classic, and led his team to the postseason.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater's Babe Ruth and Button Bay's Rogers Hornsby are named Batters of the Year. Both received unanimous votes for the award. Ruth won the award for a 6th consecutive season. He led the Doubleday League in batting (.393), home runs (42), hits (222), runs scored (158), stolen base percentage (19-7, 73.1%), and walks (150). He also slugged 46 doubles, 13 triples, and drove in 123. He fell only 6 RBIs short of a Triple Crown. Hornsby did capture the Triple Crown in the Knickerbocker League, with a .390 average, 23 home runs, and 128 RBIs, to win the award for the first time in his career. Hornsby also led the league in walks (93), and slugged 34 doubles, 10 triples, and scored 101 runs.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — As voted on by the WBS Owners, Blackwater pitcher Ernie Wingard and Williston outfielder Ike Boone are named Rookies of the Year. Wingard led all Doubleday League pitchers with 20 wins and 299.0 innings pitched, and finished the season with a 3.40 ERA and 42 games started. He also led Blackwater to their first World Series appearance, going 2-0 in the LCS, completing both games, getting a shutout, and was awarded MVP of the LCS. In the Knickerbocker League, Boone finished 2nd in batting with a .384 average, slugged 33 doubles and 10 home runs, scored 91 runs, and drove in 118. Boone also started in the Midsummer Classic and earned team MVP honors for his great play this season.

Raleigh, NC (WBSP) — The 1924 Gold Glove Award Winners are announced today by the Commissioner's Office. Headlining the Gold Gloves, Williston's Max Carey and Hoboken's Ross Youngs both won their 3rd Gold Gloves. New this year, the Commissioner has added a Gold Glove Award for Utility Players. Ozark Mountain's Chick Fewster and Topeka's Jigger Statz received the Utility Player Gold Glove. Fewster showed off his versatility, flexxing between 2nd and 3rd base, while Statz hopped between center and left field, playing well in both. The award is Statz's 2nd; he won for his play in right field last year. Alto's Rabbit Maranville, Kinnaird Street's Whitey Witt, Williston's Heinie Groh all won the award for the 2nd time in their career. Maranville has now won the award at both secondbase ('24) and shortstop ('23).

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): WILLISTON WENDIGOS WIN FIRST WORLD SERIES TITLE!!! The Williston Wendigos warmed up their bats early and chipped away steadily at Blackwater's pitching staff, scoring 15 runs on 19 hits and 8 walks as a team. Eight Wendigo batters had 2 or more hits and there was no easy out for Blackwater. Rip Collins only made it through 3.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits. The Oulaws' pitchers also combined for 3 wild pitches, and their defense made 4 errors in the field. Walter Johnson aced the game for Williston, allowing only 1 unearned run on 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings, while striking out 9. Johnson was 2-1 with a 1.38 ERA in the series. Eddie Collins had a great day and series overall, batting 3 of 4 with 3 RBIs, and leading all batters with a .483 average over the series. The final score was 15-3, the only dominant win in an otherwise tight series. The World Series win is especially sweet for owner Kyle Pope who has dominated the past 6 seasons and won more games than any other owner. This season was marked by the midseason trade for Walter Johnson, who despite only going 3-6 for Williston in the regular season, perhaps made the difference in the World Series. Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Blackwater staged a 5-run rally in the 8th, 4 of which came with 2 outs followed by a string of 4 hits off of Lee Meadows, to lock down the win and force a final Game 7. The Outlaw rally included 2 doubles, by Jack Smith and Aaron Ward. For the Wendigos, Glenn Myatt hit his 3rd home run of the series, a 2-run shot in the 5th. George Uhle stayed strong to the end, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and 4 walks. Game 7 is tomorrow in Blackwater, both teams on the cusp of winning their first World Series. Williston, ND (WBSP): The Wendigos jumped out early and fended off a late comeback attempt by Blackwater to win 8-6 and secure a 3-2 advantage before heading back to Blackwater for Game 6. Ike Boone and Tris Speaker combined to drive in 5 of the Wendigo's 8 runs. Boone had a solo home run, and Speaker hit a 3-run double to do most of the damage. Three Outlaw errors helped out Williston, as Ernie Wingard gave up 5 runs, only 3 earned, in 4.2 innings of pitching. The Outlaws got to Urban Shocker late, Phil Bohne with a pinch-hit home run in the 7th, and Babe Ruth capping a 2-run rally with a double in the 9th to get within 2 runs, but Huck Betts got Jack Smith to ground out, ending the game. Williston, ND (WBSP): Rip Collins and Walter Johnson put on another pitching duel today, and this time Collins had the 3-1 edge. Collins and the Outlaws carried a 1-0 lead into the 8th, when his namesake Eddie Collins hit a home run to tie the game. Collins gave up 2 more singles to Tris Speaker and Ike Boone, but retired Heinie Groh to leave those runners stranded on 2nd and 3rd, and get our of the jam. Blackwater finally got to Walter Johnston in the 9th, as Johnny Gooch drove in Jack Smith with a sac' fly for the go-ahead run, and Jimmy Johnston doubled in Willie Kamm for the insurance run. Sheriff Blake closed out the game for Blackwater and picked up the save. Williston will host Game 5 tomorrow, but will have to travel back to Blackwater for their shown at the crown. Williston, ND (WBSP): Babe Ruth, Willie Kamm, and Bing Miller combined for 5 home runs today against Williston, getting their first series win. Ruth and Kamm both had 2 each. Kamm drove in 4 runs, while Ruth collected 4 hits in all and hit the 9th-inning run which recaptured the lead for good for Blackwater. Williston came close to matching but fell just short. Both Glenn Myatt and Heinie Groh hit home runs for the Wendigos, Groh with the 3-run shot in the 7th that knotted the game. The 7 home runs hit today accounted for 11 of 13 runs, including all 7 of Blackwater's. Starters George Uhle and Lee Meadors both had no-decisions. Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Game 2 stayed tight for 5 innings, until Blackwater rookie star Ernie Wingard lost the handle in the 6th, loading the bases for reliever Walter Beall who gave up a 3-run triple to speedster Max Carey. That busted the game open. Williston's Urban Shocker held strong for 8, but ran out gas in the 9th. Shocker got in a little trouble, and the Outlaws scored 3 to get within 2, but reliever Mike Cvengros got the job done and earned the save. Shocker was credited with the win; Wingard the loss. Max Carey's 4 RBIs fueled the offense for Williston, with help from Glenn Myatt who batted 3 of 5 with 3 run scored, including a solo home run in the top of the 9th. The teams will head to Williston, ND for Game 3, the Wendigos up 2-0 and in strong position to win the crown in front of hopeful home town fans who have been waiting for this moment for some time. 「boxscore」

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Veteran ace Walter Johnson single-handedly beat Blackwater today, 3-1. Johnson and opponent Rip Collins both had shutouts going until the 8th when Johnson singled to drive in Max Carey and Roger Peckinpaugh. Johnson almost kept his shutout, but gave up a solo shot and the Blackwater's only run to Babe Ruth with 2 outs in the 9th. Williston, ND (WBSP): Ike Boone's walkoff moonshot secured a win ovre Button Bay, and more importantly propelled Williston to first place in the Knickerbocker League, with only a couple weeks of play left. Wilbur Cooper was only 2 outs away from a shutout when Boone hit his 19th home run of the season. Cooper fell to 17-9 on the season, and reliever Huck Betts snagged the win, even though starter Lee Meadows pitched 8 innings and only allowed 1 Benedit run. The Wendigos are hungry, having been very successful in past seasons and coming up empty in the postseason. Old Lyme, CT (WBSP): George Kelly batted for the cycle today, as the Boston Colonials continue to scrap for a playoff spot. The 12-5 win over Old Lyme has them jockeying for the 3rd place spot in the Knickerbocker League. With less than a month to go, all but 3 teams have a reasonable shot at making the post-season. Kelly drive 3 runs and scored 3 runs in his 4 of 4 effort, and added a sacrifice fly as well. Dave Danforth got the win, allowing 4 Ticks runs in 7.1 innings, improving to 13-6. Topeka, KS (WBSP): The Moosedogs may not be in the hunt, but they came to make life difficult for the 2nd-place Wendigos today. Recently acquired veteran ace Walter Johnson took a shelling of sorts, giving up 6 runs (only 2 earned), losing 8-3 to Topeka. Pat McNulty led the way for Topeka, batting 5 of 5 with 2 triples and 3 RBI. Pete Donohue got the win, pitching all 9, and allowing only 3 runs on 13 scattered Williston hits. Austin, TX (WBSP): The wildcard scrum in the Knickerbocker League continued today with a big win by Austin, 10-0 over Williston, tightening a 2-game gap which also includes Button Bay and Boston. Eppa Rixey shut out the Williston offense, allowing on 3 hits and no walks. Rixey stands 16-8 with a 3.31 ERA. Johnny Mostil led the Aces' offense, batting 2 of 4 with a home run and a triple, and driving in 4 runs. Ken Williams added 3 hits, driving in 2 and scoring 3 runs. Lee Meadows took a shelling for the Wendigos, allowing 7 runs in 4 innings, and falling to 15-12 on the season. The win is Austin's 4th in a row, and even though they sit 5th, they are in easy striking distance of a postseason position. Williston is tied for 2nd with Boston. Blackwater, KY (WBSP): In a possible Doubleday postseason preview, Macon outpaced Blackwater, scoring 6 in the last 2 innings to come from behind and win 12-9. Bob Meusel tripled 3 times, Hack Wilson picked up his 10th homerun and 3 RBIs, and Joe Dugan collected 5 hit of his own. Blackwater seems to have the Doubleday pennant in the bag, but Macon is vying for a playoff seat. Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Blackwater has surged to a 12-game lead in the Doubleday League, having led all teams with a 16-8 record since the Midsummer Classic. Today's win came over Santa Carla in a 13-4 rout on 20 hits. George Uhle pitched the complete game, improving to 11-7 with a 3.96 ERA. Uhle also helped out at the plate, combining with Jimmy Johnston and Bing Miller for 12 hits, 10 RBIs, and 7 RBIs. Miller also had a home run. Carey doubled and drove in 3 in the effort. Jack Bentley pitched all 9, allowing 1 run on 6 hits and 6 walks, and improved to 10-4 with a 4.21 ERA. Middlebury, VT (WBSP): The Knickerbockers staged an 11-run rally in the 8th to blow the lid off the Midsummer Classic in Middlebury today. Rougarou Jack Quinn and Outlaw Rip Collins combined to yield 9 singles and a walk in the barrage. After Doubledays jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st, Rogers Hornsby answered with a 2-run blast to tie the game in the bottom half, and then a single to put the Knickerbockers up 3-2 in the 2nd. The Doubledays scored 6 runs late in the 6th and 7th innings to come back and recapture the lead, sparked by a pinch hit RBI single by Marty McManus who entered the game with 2 strikes on Riggs Stephenson. McManus finished 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs for the Doubledays, but it was not enough. Tris Speaker and Joe Sewell both picked up 3 hits for the Knickerbockers; Sewell also scored 3 runs. Hornby had the only home run and led all batters with 3 RBIs. Boston's Sam Gray snagged the win credit. The Knickerbockers have won 3 consecutive classics, and now lead the series 4-2 overall. Raleigh, NC (WBSP): Today the Commissioners office announced the 1924 Midsummer Classic rosters. Once again Babe Ruth and Rogers Hornsby are returning for their 6th consecutive time as starters. The first-place Blackwater Outlaws led all teams with 3 selection, catcher Mike Gonzalez and shortstop Jimmy Johnston joining Ruth. Ruth was the only unanimous selection. Alto pitcher Sam Jones will get the start for the Doubledays against Austin pitcher Eppa Rixey, facing off in their own World Series rematch. The Classic is hosted by Ken Edwards' Middlebury Moundsmen in Middlebury, Vermont. Hometown favorite Goose Goslin also made the starting squad. The Knickerbockers will play as the home team. Gary McIntosh and Steve Wood will face for their 2nd time in the Classic.

Bob Shawkey pitched stellar, only allowing 3 hits, but gave up the difference-making home run to Cotton Tierney in the 2nd inning. Shawkey falls to 1-2, with a 1.25 ERA. Ernie Wingard also had a great day, hurling a 7-hit shutout against the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and hitting a home run of his own in the th inning. In the team effort, the Outlaws scored 14 runs on 19 hits; every man in the lineup got a hit.
